R has been stopped and restarted twice in an attempt to reinstall the package, but it fails to compile because the temporary directory is locked.and cannot be deleted. I have previously been able to remove 00LOCK directories without issue - the difference in this case is that Avira quarantined a file which apparently has silently changed ownership rights. I have administrator rights on this machine and have never had this problem in the past. It contains several empty subdirectories and a single DLL file at the bottom of the directory tree.I cannot remove either the file or the directory despite the fact that I am the owner of all the parent directories and the file itself (verified from cmd). Thus, it would seem that I have this huge but non-functioning "Windows.old" folder just lying around taking up space.Īny ideas about this "Windows.old" folder, and if I should try further to delete it? The "SYSTEM" would not allow me to do so. when I noted the existence of this "Windows.old" folder, I tried to delete it. But I never did anything to re-label the Windows folder, and it's practically a brand new machine (I built it just a few days ago). It is my understanding that an existing folder is sometimes named " *.old " when wants to, or wants Windows to, create an entire new such folder and all inside files. Under the folder where the "Windows" folder is located is a folder labeled "Windows.old", which has lots and lots of Windows stuff). There are some files that you will not be able to access, such as boot and other critical files.
Go to Properties on the file in question and take ownership:įiles that are owned by System or Trusted Installer do not recognize Administrator.
